Online music agreement struck for EU

Due to a reporting error, a story published Monday about a European agreement concerning online music services mischaracterized the role of the EU. The European Commission convened the online music roundtable, but the resulting agreement was among the industry participants only.

The headline has been changed as above and the first two paragraphs now read as follows:

A group representing the online music industry has signed an agreement designed to improve consumers' access to online music across the 27-nation European Union, the European Commission said Tuesday.

Online music retailers including Amazon.com and Apple, Finnish mobile-phone giant Nokia, royalty rights collecting societies, consumer groups, EMI Music Publishing and Universal Music Publishing struck the deal during roundtable discussions chaired by E.U. Commissioner for Competition Neelie Kroes.
